Sekula-Gibbs Gotten

This series of events is too funny not to relate:

  • Texas Election officials, in a transparent attempt to help fellow republican Shelley Sekula-Gibbs, add a special new election line. In addition to electing a new congressperson for TX-22 they will elect a seperate person to serve the end of Delay's term. They are able to put S-G in that race even though they can't switch her for Delay in the main race.
  • Sekula-Gibbs is elected to serve the end of Delays race but Nick Lampson wins the genral election. This means S-G will serve for a the lame duck session, about 4 weeks.
  • S-G comes to events welcoming new representatives and, though several senators and major congressional leaders welcomed her, she complains publicly that bush and cheney snubbed her (rep-for-a-month and all).
  • Delay's Staffers Delete all the stuff from the computers and resign en masse, she calls for an investigation.
  • She now has no files, no staff, and is the laughing stock of washington.

My question is: will she be getting the lifelong pay and benefits that all members of congress get. 200K a year and the best health care in America for life is quite a payday for a month in office.

Intersting use of "congressperson." I usually use "congress-member," or when appropriate, "representative."

a good point brother ruby! i am not really sure. we should start a movement to deny her a congressional pension. it would mark a stark contrast with the rest of my life where i fight *for* workers pensions.

ask, an interesting point. i wonder if there is an ideological nuance between congressperson and congress-member. what motivates that choice for you? personally i didn't give it much thought.
