A Contemporary Sukkot Ritual

This week we have been celebrating Sukkot, a holiday that, like many, is agricultural in nature. We ostensibly build booths and reside in them as a way to reconnect with the harvest traditions that gave Sukkot its start. At its core, Sukkot recognizes an important seasonal change. This connection was not wasted on me as i undertook the ritual of digging out my comforter and its cover. The autumnal winds have begun to blow and the season is nearly all the way changed. The seasons are different here that they were in ancient (and contemporary israel) but the neeed to recognize the changes in the earth and consider how those changes impacts our lives has not.
Maybe i'll make sure to change to the comforter during sukkpt next year as well.
