Feingold is Definetly Right and Probably Lonely
Amazing! The Washington Post is reporting that Feingold again broke with conventional political calculations and took a stong stand in favor of gay marriage:
Add this to a list of lonely progressive positions Feingold has taken including suggesting Bush be censured and opposing the patriot act. This is why I am leaning strongly towards supporting him for the 2008 presidential nomination.Sen. Russell Feingold (D-Wis.), a prospective 2008 presidential candidate, said yesterday that he thinks bans on same-sex marriages have no place in the nation's laws.
Feingold said in an interview that he was motivated to state his position on one of the most divisive social issues in the country after being asked at a town hall meeting Sunday about a pending amendment to the Wisconsin state constitution to ban same-sex marriages.
Feingold called the amendment "a mean-spirited attempt" to single out gay men and lesbians for discrimination and said he would vote against it. But he went further, announcing that he favors legalizing same-sex marriages.

What do you think his chances for winning are?
well, to be realistic, not good.
abc has a fairly in-depth story that basically handicaps the dem and repug 2008 contenders: http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/story?id=1754637
some analysis of it is found here:

i don't think it is likely that feingold will be the eventual nominee, but i do think he has a decent chance. for one, he speaks directly, honestly, and doesn't appear slimy in the way most politicians do. he is fearless in a way that you ought to respect no matter what your politics are [key word-ought]. he has a base of supporters who really believe in him, and would turn out for him, and share his message with his friends. he has substance. who else does?
ZT- I've been feeling this way awhile about Feingold. Debating what I can tell knucklehead when I decide to go campaign for him... :-)
