Disco Polyester and Retro Taxes

So many things have endured from the 70s. The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, and Led Zepplin are all still streaming from people's stereos. we are still invading developing nations that pose no clear and present danger. Bollywood is still chugging along and of course disco lives a vibrant life on the bar mitzvah circuit where one can do the hustle and enjoy a very narrow set of the Village People's music. The Graduate is still a well loved film, though it continues to be a bit creepy. The Godfather of course, is a coming of age moment for many kids. Environmentalism took off and we still have presidents flailing wildly to snatch every bit of executive power possible.

So many things from the 70s are still with us. But sadly the tax system has taken a tremendous turn for the worst. Tasini pointed this out over at his blog:
...If New York State went back to the tax system it had in the 1970s, 95 percent of the people would see their taxes lowered and five percent--the richest people in the state--would have their taxes go modestly up--and New York would have an additional $9 billion in revenues...
I'd trade M*A*S*H for a just tax system pretty quick.
