Obama Has Arrived

In light of the exciting news out of Iowa, a few thoughts on Obama:

Pro

Brings New People Into Politics (about 40% of his supporters were first time caucusers in Iowa)

Could, like JFK and Reagan before him, articulate a new vision for politics and America and in so doing attract a generation of people to his party.

Con

The main fight the next president has won't be over iraq, healthcare, or farm subsidies, those are just skirmishes, it will be against special interests for the soul of democracy. Obama doesn't seem to understand or be willing to articulate the issues in that fight. Edwards' speech last night perfectly hit those points. Obama said some nice things, but basically fluff. It is possible that Obama is posturing for election and then will unleash holy hell on the obstructionist healthcare industry but somehow i doubt it.
